About Us
Our roots.
Bill Jergens, founder of R.B. Jergens Contractors, Inc. had seen hundreds of construction projects since he entered the industry in 1972. After graduating from Chaminade Julienne High School, he worked as an Equipment Operator for his father at Henry Jergens Contractors and eventually became a Project Manager.
In 1987, R.B. Jergens Contractors was formed. Bill was engaged in daily business and worked as an Operations / Project Manager. He learned the ins and outs of the industry and how to run a successful business. He built relationships with vendors, customers, and employees to set the stage for his future business endeavors.
In 1997, he became the sole Owner / President. R.B. Jergens. He capitalized on those partnerships and continued to grow the business year after year. He built a culture at R.B. Jergens where he treated you like family.
Fast forward to today, R.B. Jergens stands tall, employing approximately 350 people, boasting a fleet of over 100 “red trucks,” and owning 600 pieces of “yellow iron.”
For nearly three decades, Bill fostered a business, environment, and culture that places its people at the forefront. R.B. Jergens has taken these values and built a robust team of employees across the United States, working on projects from Dayton, Ohio to Birmingham, Alabama.
Safety
R.B. Jergens complies with all laws, regulations, and other policy mechanisms concerning safety and environmental issues to ensure our work is performed in a safe and environmentally sound manner.
We put an extremely high focus on safety. Our goal on each project is “ZERO” - zero lost-time injuries, zero near misses, and zero first aid incidents. Our EMR is under 1.0, and we maintain a Recordable Incident Rate well below the owner’s requirements. We ensure our employees have received the proper training for each project we undertake. Our actual safety qualifications can be made available upon request.
-
R.B. Jergens places its highest priority on the safety of our employees. We believe that all accidents are preventable, and therefore we strive for a goal of zero accidents every year. There is no other goal that is acceptable! To obtain this zero-accident goal, we continually improve our safety culture, which promotes an incident and injury-free workplace through innovative training and educational programs and the creation of, and adherence to, safe work practices. Safety is a tool that our employees use regularly.
-
We use job planning and safety tools for each project, such as Job Safety Analyses (JSA’s) and Job Site Safety Talks. Additionally, all employees are encouraged to constantly look for (and report) any job site hazards and potentially unsafe situations. Our superintendents and safety staff continuously tour our worksites to search for and eliminate safety concerns or risks. If an unsafe or unplanned condition is observed or a near-miss has been witnessed, all employees are authorized to stop work and notify supervision so that the situation may be safely remedied.
-
In addition to daily safety training, R.B. Jergens encourages and conducts safety training throughout the year. We offer numerous safety training programs to keep the employees updated on current safety issues/practices. While some training sessions are new and represent the latest industry standards, others are a recurring event year in and year out. Repeating many safety classes instills a habit of safety awareness among our employees. R.B. Jergens believes that an educated and empowered employee presents a safer and more productive workforce.
We are a mid-size general contractor headquartered in Vandalia, Ohio, a Dayton suburb. We perform various environmental and heavy civil construction projects. Our company specializes in coal combustion residual (CCR) work, which includes landfill construction, wet CCR impoundment closures, CCR management at active power plants, and other heavy civil/environmental power generation construction projects. We build waste / environmental construction projects and public improvement projects of all varieties, including roads, bridges, site development, asphalt paving, and concrete work. We have worked for various power utilities, state EPA agencies, highway divisions, local municipalities, national design-build firms, and waste disposal companies.
There is no power generation / environmental heavy-civil construction work that we cannot perform.
